Yin and Yang

The universal energy field that underlies all that exists, which can be simply represented by the word qi, may become manifest as matter, or that which is immaterial.  These opposing natures exist in a harmonious interrelationship that describes a constant state of change within the natural world.  Everything can be broken down to being more like one thing than the other, therefore dividing everything into being yin or yang-like in nature.

When taking this view with disease, the symptoms may be categorized as being more of a yin or yang type.  This is the most basic way of bringing a situation back into balance, by supporting the yin where there is not enough, or the releasing of yang where there is too much, and vice versa.
